What is FOREX?
Before I go any further you may be a little confused as to what exactly FOREX is all about. In fact, many people have several misconceptions about how FOREX works.
To put it simply the FOREX is the world's largest market it handles on average about $2 Trillion (US) worth of exchanges each and everyday. This makes it roughly 20 times larger than the combined trading volume of all the American stock markets combined!
Moreover, it operates 24 hours a day, 5 days a week. The market opens Monday morning Australian time and closes Friday afternoon New York time. Thus, you need some free FOREX Training to take advantage of this huge market.
Let's review some of the advantages of the FOREX. Beyond the sheer size of the market and its accessibility there are two other big advantages. First, it is more transparent than stocks because news about currency fluctuations is accessible to everyone at the same time.
Second, there is no commission in the FOREX because Brokers earn money by setting a 'spread' – the difference between what a currency can be bought at and what it can be sold at.

The FOREX is NOT the stock market. It is far larger than any stock market, has much longer hours than any stock market and is not located in any one location.
Furthermore unlike stocks, the FOREX is primarily a short term market. Most traders enter and exit deals within a 24 hour period – sometimes within a few minutes. And don't forget FOREX trades are commission free.
Also, the FOREX is NOT the futures market. Beyond the differences noted above about the stock market (e.g. hours of operation, market size, commissions and location) there is one other important difference. A futures contract states what price will be paid for a product at a specified delivery date, whereas the FOREX reflects the real-time value of global currencies.
Therefore, you can buy currency based futures contracts but these are not directly part of the FOREX. Instead, it is the FOREX that will ultimately determine the final value of these currency futures.
